Locklan Hewlett was an early commit to Wake Forest, but after reopening his recruitment he has decided to stay in his home state of Florida and play for South Florida. The St. Augustine HS standout made his decision public after several visits to Tampa this spring.
South Florida edged out Pitt, Washington, and Tulane to land Hewlett's commitment.
"I knew it was home and I thought today would be the best to announce to start the week," Hewlett told Bulls Insider.
Hewlett gave the good news to the USF staff and he was pleased with the reaction led by head coach Alex Golesh.
"It was awesome," he said of the reaction. "They were so excited and fired up."
Hewlett decommitted from Wake Forest a month ago and USF cranked up the heat building the relationship between Golesh, quarterbacks coach Joel Gordon, the Bulls staff and Hewlett.
"As soon as I decommitted and started conversation and building a better relationship I knew I wanted to be a Bull," he said. "They run the same exact offense as I do at my high school and it is as good as a fit as anybody could find if you ask me."
Next up, Hewlett will put on his recruiting cap and he can start at his own school with four-star receiver Carl Jenkins who is another priority USF target.
"I'm fired up and excited," he said of his commitment becoming public knowledge. "And I'm excited to build this class up!"
