Signing day usually has a late surprise, and today started the signing period for midyear JUCO transfers. USF was able to flip Jamie Byrd from his commitment with Arizona as he signed with USF today.

Byrd signed with TCU out of college, but ended up at Iowa Western C.C. He went to Pasco High School which is just a half hour drive from USF.
"Just to be a little closer to my family," Byrd said was one of the final decisions in him flipping to USF. "They were offering the same things as Arizona so I felt like why not be closer to my family."
"Being close to home was never a big thing for me, because I've been traveling around from Texas to Iowa. But when I got the chance to come home I thought it was a great thing."
Byrd took an official visit to USF in November and saw a lot of things that he liked.
"I just felt like the coaching staff was trying to make a big change around that program and I just thought that I could see myself playing in that program."
Offensive Coordinator Walt Wells was the primary recruiter for Byrd.
"Me and him had the best relationship (of all the USF coaches). Coach Reaves also - he recruited me way back when he was at New Mexico, so I felt comfortable with him. Those two were big for me committing."
Byrd is very excited about coming in and competing right away.
"When I come in I'm trying to start right away. That's the whole outlook on everything."
