Tampa-Today was the second to last practice before the USF Spring Game on Saturday. In anticipation for that, here are some thoughts from Coach Taggart and a few of his players headed into the game.
Willie Taggart
"Saturday will be the 15th practice for us, it will be a game, but we are still practicing to get better. Our guys will still be evaluated on that scrimmage too, and that scrimmage will be graded on technique, effort, and assignments. All the things you look for. It's going to be game like and we expect our guys to go out and make some big time plays for us."
Josh Brown
"I cant wait to play against the white team. It's going to be a lot of fun. Everybody is talking about it and im apart of it. I like how it's split up and I like how the draft went. It was cool and neat."
Mike McFarland
"It's a lot of competition out here. White team, man. White team. We are ready."
Stephen Bravo-Brown
"It's a lot different, it's a lot of fun. It's exciting and it's like a real game. With the draft and everything, it made this a lot more fun and competitive."
Brynjar Gundmundsson
"(The draft) was fun, was a good deal. It was a little different and a bit unexpected. A guard taken 3 overall, Thor was taken 5 overall."
News and Notes
-Defensive line coach Eric Mathies was very hands-on today. He worked with his players on engaging and then releasing off of blocks.
-Ron Cooper worked with the DB's on ball skills. He had them dropping back into coverage, then shifting to come back and intercept or get a hand on a pass.
-New running backs coach Telly Lockette worked a lot on footwork today with the backs. He had them run through the foot ladder, as well as the "gauntlet."
-The quarterbacks and wide receivers did some 6-on-0 plays with all different kinds of combinations of routes.
-When the DB's went over to work with the QB's and receivers, I saw them working a lot with press coverage. It worked for Josh Brown, as he was able to intercept a pass from Bobby Eveld after he and D'Vario Montgomery had a bit of miscommunication.
-As the media was leaving practice, we were able to catch a glimpse of Ron Cooper and Raymond Woodie take their aim at placekicking. Alex Mut was the holder, and since one of the teams is without a holder, this could have been practice for Saturday. Or, it could have been just a little bit of fun that the team was having.
-I know I usually include this at the beginning, but I'm putting it down here today. The playlist from today's practice included such songs as "More Bounce To The Ounce" by Zapp, "Otis" by Jay-Z and Kanye West, as well as "My Kinda Party" by Jason Aldean.
-One final practice report coming tomorrow before the Spring Game on Saturday.
