Last weekend BullsInsider.com took a trip to Tallahassee, Fla. for the Florida State Team Camp. While there we got multiple looks at South Florida target David Thomas of Eagle’s Landing (GA) High School.
We spoke with the 6-foot-2, 185 pounder to get an update on where things stand in his recruitment.
BI: Which schools are heaviest in the mix with you right now?
DT: University of South Florida, Longwood, UNC Wilmington, Texas A&M Commerce, Mercer, Tennessee Tech and a few others.
BI: What are the South Florida coaches saying to you?
DT: That they like my game. How I play both ends and play hard throughout the whole game. They want me to come on campus and they’re going to come see me at LakePoint tournament.
BI: Who do you talk to the most at USF?
DT: I talk to Coach [Larry] Dixon the most and I talk to the head coach, Coach Gregory.
BI: Talk about your relationship with Coach Dixon.
DT: It’s good. He came to our school and he’s pretty cool. We have a good relationship.
RUSS’ REACTION
Thomas is a high scoring athletic wing that is productive. He is strong and plays with a high motor. Thomas knows how to play and can get buckets at all three levels. His handle can get a little loose at times but that is easily fixed. While watching Thomas during the camp I felt like I was watching a slightly shorter version of David Collins. Except Thomas is a better perimeter shooter.
WHAT’S NEXT
This weekend is a live period and Eagle’s Ridge is playing in Georgia at LakePoint. Bulls’ assistant coach Lou Rowe watched him this afternoon. Gregory and Dixon are expected at LakePoint at some point this weekend to watch Thomas. If Gregory likes what he sees, and we think he will, Thomas will be offered. Then the Bulls need to get him on campus for an official visit. In July Thomas will run with the Atlanta Celtics on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit.
