Runningthebulls.com broke the news of Rivals.com three-star athlete Tyre McCants committing to USF on Thursday night.
"USF is a college that stood out more than all of the others," McCants said. "I liked the campus a lot and the athletic facilities. I went to one of their practices (on an unofficial visit last spring) and that really caught my eye.
"They just had fun no matter what the situation was and they always kept their heads up."
Special teams coach Stu Holt was McCants' recruiter.
"Coach Holt is really cool. It's kind of weird because he coached with my dad in Daytona, so he's known me longer than I thought he did. I think that kind of caught his eye because he knew me and saw he in the past.
"He's really cool as a person, and I think him being my coach is going to be even better."
McCants won the WEARTV3 and NWF Daily News player of the year awards. He was also selected to the Florida All Star coaches association game and was selected twice in the Daily News Dandy Dozen.
He is listed as a wide receiver by Rivals.com, but is more of an football player than just a receiver. He will also play running back and could see time in the return game.
"I think it's just like here at Niceville," he said about his fit in the USF offense. "I can kind of go anywhere they need me. It won't be a discomfort if I'm not at receiver. I just want to go and play wherever they put me at. Just get the ball in my hands and help the team achieve great things"
Tyre's mother Tonja McCants is a very positive role model in his life, and has guided a very mature young man. She guided him very well throughout the recruiting process, and Tyre is very happy to have chosen his school.
"I think it's not as stressful as it was to know that I'm finally going somewhere and not have to worry about 'is this school closed with scholarships.' It's just more stress taken off of me."
McCants will officially visit USF on January 17th.
Rivals.com southeast recruiting analyst Kynon Codrington has this to say about Tyre McCants committing to USF:
"This is a nice pick up for head coach Willie Taggart. McCants is a big play wideout and the most polished skill player for the Bulls in this class. He can help out in the return game as well. The three-star prospect has the skill set to come in and play early."
