1. Quarterback Marquel Blackwell (1997-2002)
There really is no debate who is number one in the top 25 players of all time for USF, it has to be the Marquel Blackwell.
The St. Petersburg native joined the Bulls in 1998 and played the role of the scout team quarterback but in 1999, Blackwell took over the starting job, a job he would never give up until he graduated.
Blackwell changed everything while playing quarterback for the Bulls.
He saw the program shift from DII to DI and helped lead the Bulls to their first victory over a ranked team. While his legacy is well known by all, the stats he put up during his time at quarterback further cement his place as the top player in program history.
Blackwell was a career 30-12 while as the starter, a mark no one has ever passed.
He holds the records for most passing yards in program history (9108), most touchdowns in a career (67), most touchdowns in a season (20), most touchdowns in a game (5), most attempts in a game (65), most attempts in a season (456), most attempts in a career (1417), most completions in a year (258), most completions in a career (787), and the most pass attempts without an interception (235).
Many fans would think Matt Grothe would be tops on the list, but remember, Blackwell put up these career numbers in a lesser amount of games, making them even more incredible. There is little debate he is at the top of the list.
Blackwell now serves on the coaching staff at USF.
