Greg Lewis cuts list to five

Three-star big man Greg Lewis has narrowed down his list of schools to a select five.

The 6-foot-9, 225-pound Baltimore (MD) St. Frances product had to cut down a list from approximately 10 offers to get to where he is at now.

"We are down to Maryland, South Florida, Rutgers, Indiana, and UNC-Wilmington," said Lewis' father Greg Lewis Sr.

The decision was tough not only for the younger Lewis but also his father. Lewis Sr. put was adamant that his son make the call on what schools made the next round and which ones didn't - despite realizing that their lists may not match up.

But in the end, Lewis Sr. realizes that his son will go where is best for him.

"It was a difficult thing," he said. "It was interesting for me because I allowed him to do it and I couldn't really help but wonder if that was really the best five. But it was a difficult thing for both of us. I am happy as a parent. If Greg chooses a school, I can learn to live with it no matter what. I want him to do what is best for him to do."

The lucky group of schools that made Lewis' shortlist shared a few common characteristics that set them apart from the ones that no longer remain.

"I think that again it was the relationships with the coaching staffs, and I think most importantly having the opportunity," said Lewis' father. "These schools had the opportunity for him to play. This is taking into account great education, great environment, and from the perspective if he will have a chance to play."

The Lewis family plans on making a few more visits in the very near future.

"This week we are going to go to Rutgers and I think that next week is South Florida," Lewis Sr. revealed."

At this point, the next step is slightly unclear to a point. Lewis could decide to verbally commit to a school at any given point, or continue on through the process and perhaps eliminating more schools.

"If he goes to Rutgers and he feels like he wants to commit, then we don't need to go anywhere else," explained his father. "If not, we will continue to go through the process. We will have to see how things go."
