Defensive end was a huge need for this 2014 class, and USF picked up a great pass rusher in Fort Scott C.C. defensive end Demetrius Hill. Hill named a final four of USF, Minnesota, NIU, and Baylor before committing on Tuesday morning. Runningthebulls.com broke the news of the Bulls landing Hill.
"I just felt like it was the best fit for me," Hill said. "My mom - she liked the coaching staff. It came down to USF and Minnesota. I just felt like it was a good opportunity for me. Not saying it wouldn't be at Minnesota, but I just felt pretty comfortable with South Florida."
Hill played his junior college ball in Kansas, but is from Illinois. Hill's future defensive line coach is also from Illinois.
"They're just chill," he said about the USF coaching staff. "I had a really good relationship with them. The defensive line coach (Eric Mathies) he knows me pretty well. He's from Chicago, Illinois. I just bonded with their coaches a lot."
Hill will be an early enrollee, and will sign tomorrow when the JUCO signing period begins.
"I just felt like playing on an NFL field is a blessing, coming from where I came from. It's going to be cool playing there every home game."
Hill's mother, Learetha Smith, says she felt very comfortable leaving her son's hands in the USF coaching staff.
"I absolutely did. All around they're just like family. They feel like a very family oriented team. We're a very tight family, and I think they can give him that love and support as well. I am very very excited for my son."
Hill is looking forward to getting in right away and trying to compete for a starting job.
