South Florida has been recruiting the Peach State hard and they added a running back Monday with the commitment of Irwin County (Ga.) star Shane Marshall. Marshall has been a consistent producer on the high school level as a running back and will aim to take that with him to Tampa.
For Marshall seeing the vision of what head coach Alex Golesh is building in Tampa was a big part of his decision.
"I love what Coach Golesh and the staff are building. The culture in itself is great and I'm blessed to be a part of that. It feels like a home away from home," Marshall said.
Marshall already has big plans for his future with the USF program as well and that was something he noticed on his visit over the weekend, with the strength and conditioning program being the cherry on top of the sundae.
"The weight room caught my eye," he said of his favorite things on campus. "I'm big on working out so I'll most definitely live in there. The weather played a major key. It always feels great in Tampa and most importantly they have great people who want to see you do well on and off the field because it is not just about ball. I also have business and real estate goals and USF is a great place to grow in all of those areas."
New USF running backs coach Micah James played a lead role in Marshall's recruitment along with his grad assistant Kumehnnu Gwilly.
"Coach James and Coach Gwilly mainly recruited me. They are very authentic and I can talk to them about anything," he said.
So what will the Bulls get from Marshall, he says a little of everything.
"I'm an all-purpose back. Like water I'm going to take what the defense gives me," he said.
