A little under a month ago, Davie (Fla.) University School QB Mike White capped off an impressive day after leading the Suns to a victory in the 3A Florida State title game by committing to USFimmediately after.
White, who finished the 2012 season with 22 touchdowns and just two interceptions, found himself unsure of his future once Skip Holtz was let go by the Bulls.
"I thought once Coach Holtz was fired that USF was out of the picture because they would bring in a whole new staff and they would have other QBs in mind", White explained.
Despite this, White said that once he got an offer, the choice to commit to USF came easily due in part to the offense that new head coach Willie Taggart runs.
"There were multiple factors like being close to home and having an offense that is conducive to my strengths," White said.
Above all things though, White explained that the opportunity to play early was the most important thing to him.
The 6'5 195 pound 2-star quarterback was also heavily recruited by Oklahoma State and had other offers from Marshall, Eastern Kentucky, Western Illinois, and Florida A&M.
Willie Taggart has not yet finished assembling a staff for the upcoming season, but so far White is impressed with who Coach T has put on the bus.
"The staff in my opinion, looks like a bunch of energetic guys who want to win, and when you have guys like that under a head coach like Taggart, its hard not to be successful."
The Fort Lauderdale native explained that he wants to make an early impact with the Bulls. However, with confidence like that, there are always going to be doubters and naysayers.
"Everyone is entitled to their opinion, so I don't take it personal," White said. "It gives me something to work for, something to fuel my motivation."
White, who will be enrolling in the Fall of 2013, received a couple of prestigious end-of-season awards as well
He was named Broward County player of the year in the 2A-5A classifications by the Sun Sentinel and was named onto the 3A 2nd team All State offensive team.
