Held at the prestigious T. Pepin Hospitality Center in Tampa, the fifth annual USF Hall of Fame ceremony honored four revered members of USF sports history. The 2013 inductees were Dayana Octavien, Chris Heintz, Marquell Blackwell, and Bobby Paschal. Each of these outstanding people has not only helped shape USF athletics, but were excellent members and leaders of the USF community as well.
USF legends of present and past filed in to the ceremony hall of the Pepin Center to honor the 2013 inductees. All present USF coaches were in attendance as well as players and coaches of the past. The spirited audience provided great support for the inductees as they have shared in many experiences with them, and many knew the inductees fondly. The presence of family members and teammates drew emotion out of the inductees and helped create sensational speeches.
Each inductee had their own unique perspective to share on USF and their love for the University. Marquell Blackwell, a former USF quarterback who helped the school rise to respectability in the FBS, was humbled by his recognition Friday night.
"It's a great honor. I'm humbled, I'm enjoying it. I'm here to represent all the great coaches I had and all the great teammates I had," Blackwell said.
Blackwell was certainly savoring the moment and described how his emotions have changed since learning he was to be honored with this award up to the special night.
"I took it all in and appreciated it, but now that the moment is here, it's starting to mean a whole lot more to me," Blackwell said.
Each inductee had a video clip dedicated to them played before their speeches which helped to exemplify to the audience how large of an impact each person had at USF. After the videos, each member spoke of who they were thankful for and reminisced on their fond times at USF. The evening was capped off with the USF marching band ushering the crowd out of the ceremony hall, leaving each person with one last emotion of pride.
The fifth class of the USF Hall of Fame is one to be remembered and they were honored on a night which was impossible to forget.
