USF Elite Camp Insider Part I

Tampa, Fla – The South Florida Men’s Basketball staff hosted their first Brian Gregory Elite Camp Saturday at the Sun Dome and Muma Basketball Center. The Bulls coaching staff got a close, on campus look at some of their top in-state, as well as a few Georgia targets, in the 2018, 2019, 2020 and even 2021 classes.

Players were split up into 12 teams with each team playing two games. Each team played one game in the Sun Dome while their other game was in one of the Muma Basketball Center’s practice gyms. RTB took in the action in the Sun Dome.

Notable players attending the camp included five-star Ft. Lauderdale University School power forward Vernon Carey II (No. 2), four-star Shiloh (Snellville, Ga.) small forward Elias King (No. 31), Osceola four-star power forward Omar Payne (No. 39), four-star The Villages point guard Tre Mann (No. 41).

Most Impressive Players

Ronaldo Segu: The 2018 point guard is a fast, attacking playmaker with bounce. A good leader, who is working on becoming a better shooter. He’s a good drive and dish player with good feel on the pick and roll. Segu has a thin frame but he has a lot of heart and can absorb some contact.

Elias King: The Bulls offered King barely two weeks ago and the class of 2019 wing showed how he earned that offer. Listed at 6-foot-6 King is a talented wing with a nice mix of offensive skills and defensive potential. He has good length, scored at all three levels and was an effective shooter off the catch.

Brandon “B.J.” Boston: A youngin’ in the class of 2020, what Boston lacks in strength the 6-foot-6 wing makes up in athleticism. Boston has good length, can shoot it when his feet are set and he scored easily at all three levels. It is was a coup for USF to get Boston on campus now because he has five-star potential and his recruitment will get busy.

Jameon “J.J.” Harris: This was our second look at the 6-foot-3 guard after first seeing him at the Showtime Ballers Showcase in March – he did not disappoint. Harris has an impressive first step which allowed him to blow by guys and attack the rim. He doesn’t mind contact and either finishes through it or gets to the free throw line. He shows some serious two way potential due to his toughness.

In Part II of our Brian Gregory Elite Camp coverage we'll cover other top performers. Part III will introduce you to several "sleepers".

Carey II, Payne and Mann were held out of on court activities, as a precaution, due to minor injuries.
