Updates on 2019 USF Targets & Some 2020 Names To Know

With just one scholarship left in the 2019 class, B.J. Mack in the fold, and the impressive play of Oklahoma State transfer guard Zack Dawson during summer workouts, the South Florida men's basketball coaching staff has had plenty to evaluate recently.

Despite undecided point guards such as Tyrell Jones, Trae Broadnax, Marsei Caston, and Damian Dunn still on the Bulls board, it appeared that the Bulls are focusing in on landing a shooting guard to finish this class.

USF has already had New Mexico Junior College guard Ryan Murphy, he transferred there from Charlotte following the season, in for an official visit. Associate Head Coach Tom Herrion traveled to Hobbs, NM to visit Murphy last week.

Meanwhile, three-star Stratford Academy (GA) shooting guard Devin Butts took an official visit to USF two weekends ago. He has a visit to Wichita State set for September 21 and one to Mississippi State on September 28. USF will conduct an in-home visit with the Butts family tonight. His visit to Tampa went well, but the Georgia sniper is not quite ready to make his school choice. In fact, Hofstra and Mississippi have offered.

We have now learned that Head Coach Brian Gregory is expected at Daytona State College later today to watch sophomore Bryce Williams during a team workout. Williams, who attended South Sumter High School, is an explosive guard who is a good secondary ball handler. Gregory's visit means that the Bulls' coaches have liked what they've seen on video and Gregory wants to see Williams in-person. If Williams has a good day, an offer is likely to be extended.

The head coaches at Potter's House Christian Academy, which is supposed to be loaded this season, and at Providence School checked in with us to say that assistant coach Scott Wagers stopped by their gyms on Tuesday. Neither coach was specific on who caught Wagers' attention but we suspect that he was scouting class of 2020 prospects.

The Bulls had Providence 6-foot-9 big man James Repass at their Elite Camp last month. Repass is a big body, thick legged power forward/center that we like a little more each time we see him. He controls his rebounding area well, has good feet, hands and a soft touch at the rim.

Sources told us that Wagers also saw the No. 30 ranked junior in the nation, Corey Walker Jr. of Bishop Snyder. A smoother shooter with some explosion, Walker is gaining quite a bit of attention. He attended the USF Elite Camp last month, took an unofficial visit to Florida last Saturday -- that was easily his fourth time on the Gainesville campus -- he has also taken unofficials to Florida State, Virginia, Georgia Tech and Georgetown. Walker already holds 19 offers plus interest from seven other schools.

We love Walker, and USF did a great job getting him on campus last month to see the facilities and spend time with the coaching staff, so we are looking forward to see where his recruitment by USF goes.

A Jacksonville prospect we think USF will keep an eye on is three-star Paxon School small forward Isaiah Adams. A long, lanky athletic swing man, Adams has some ball skills, gets his jump shot to go -- despite his low release -- and has a good dose of athleticism. He holds offers from Florida Atlantic, Massachusetts, and North Florida. Adding weight/strength and improving his shot mechanics would turn Adams into a high major prospect.
