Tampa-Today was the last tune-up for the USF Football team before its annual Spring Game on Saturday. This also marked the last time that Willie Taggart would be speaking to the media before the game. Here are some tidbits of his "press conference" as well as practice in general.
Taggart told the media that the Spring Game would be just like a regular game, minus kickoffs and tackling the quarterback.
He also said the team would be running a base 4-3 defense, with some nickel packages mixed in. Coach Taggart also added that the top three candidates to start at cornerback were Joshua Brown, Kenneth Durden, and Torrel Saffold.
In the kicking game, Taggart explained that Marvin Kloss is the leader for the place-kicking role. He also said that he hasn't seen freshman Emilio Nadelman miss a field goal yet this spring.
According to Willie Taggart, the following players will not participate in the Spring Game due to injury: Todd Chandler, Lawrence Martin, Ryne Giddens, Chris Bivins, Chris Veron, and Max Lang.
Due to the fact that Veron will not be punting, backup quarterback Aaron Munoz, who used to be a punter, will handle punting duties for the white squad.
Derrick Hopkins, Jonny Sitton, Andre Davis, Josh Brown, and Torrel Saffold were returning punts today.
Since the team wasn't in pads, today was more of a walkthrough more than anything. They worked on 11-on-11 goal line defense and offense. In addition, they practiced hail mary plays, "victory formation", as well as some red-zone offense.
During the hail mary drill, Antoine Pozniak intercepted a Bobby Eveld pass.
Former Bulls starting quarterback BJ Daniels was in attendance at practice today. Future USF quarterback and 2013 signee Mike White was also there taking in the session.
And for one final time, here was today's warm-up playlist: "Murder She Wrote" by Chaka Demus, "Ice Cream Paint Job" by Dorrough, "B.O.B." by Outkast, "Make Em Say Uh" by Master P, and "For Whom The Bell Tolls" by Metallica.
One final note, the Green vs Gold game will be held on Saturday at 5:00 PM at Raymond James Stadium. Admission to the game is FREE, and the players and coaches will be available following the scrimmage for autographs. For those who cant be there, the game will be broadcast live on the USF IMG Sports Network.
