South Florida Offers New York guard Anthony Nelson

Heading into July it appeared that Anthony Nelson was one of South Florida’s back court targets in the 2018 class, and this week the Bulls took the next step, offering the rising junior a scholarship.

Nelson, a 6-foot-4, 180 pound point guard at South Kent (Kent, Conn.) played for the New York Lightning on the Nike EYBL Circuit. He averaged 10.6 points, 4.7 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 2.1 steals in 21 EYBL games this year. He shot 36 percent beyond the arc, connecting on eight of 22 three-point attempts. Nelson is good at drawing fouls and getting to the free throw line, where he made 74 percent of his attempts.

RTB watched him two Saturday's ago against the Florida Sons and he went for 12 points that day, while showcasing his ability to get to the free throw line.

USF joins a long list of schools who have offered Nelson, including UNLV, Minnesota, Seton Hall and Virginia Commonwealth, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, DePaul, Rutgers and others.
