Tampa- USF (10-15, 1-12) dropped its eighth game in a row on Sunday afternoon, 59-41 versus the Louisville Cardinals (21-5, 9-4).
The Bulls were able to hang with the Cardinals, and even pulled to within six in the second half, but Louisville was just too much to handle.
The Cardinals went on two huge runs, one in each half. In the first half, a 22-3 run put Louisville ahead and in the second half, they went on a similar 19-3 run. In a stretch of nine minutes in the second half, USF's only points were scored on a 3-pointer by JaVontae Hawkins.
Russ Smith led all scorers with 15 points on 4-of-7 shooting. He added six rebounds and four assists to go along with it. Chase Behanan had a strong game as well, scoring 12 points and going 5-of-9 from the field. Gorgui Dieng dominated in the post, hauling down 10 rebounds for Lousiville.
The Bulls shot a miserable 24.5 percent from the field in todays game, and were just 5-of-20 from beyond the arch. USF had trouble controlling the ball in this game, totaling 16 turnovers in the contest. One bright spot is the rebounding battle, as the Bulls have continued their improvements in the category. USF was outrebounded by only one.
Victor Rudd, fresh off a double-double against Providence didn't have nearly the same success in this one. Rudd shot 3-of-12 from the field, and scored just seven points in the losing effort. No USF starter scored in double-digits, the only one to do so was Jawanza Poland off the bench with 11. Kore White continued his strong play as he brought down nine boards.
The Bulls are back on the court on Wednesday night from Queens, NY against St. Johns. Tipoff is set for 7:00 PM.
