The USF Bulls Mens Basketball team is sitting at 10-10 (1-6) on the season and have been beaten badly the last two games, suffering a 39-point loss to Louisville and a 22-point loss to Memphis.
USF is reeling at this stage. The Bulls can't find anything on offense and they have been allowing teams to beat them on defense and outrebound them in the paint and now SMU comes to town. The last time the Bulls took on SMU on the road, they were handed a 71 to 54 defeat.
USF struggled to show any intensity on the court and they allowed the Mustangs to run all over them. Zach Leday with 12 points and 6 rebounds and Chris Perry with 10 points and 5 rebounds (both off of the bench). The Bulls will need a lot more in this game if they even want to flirt with the idea of a win.
One of the top players the Bulls have to deal with again is sophomore guard Nic Moore (5'9" 170 lbs.) who is averaging 13.4 PPG (40 for 89 from 3-point range), 2.5 RPG, has added 91 assists (47 turnovers, and has 25 steals on the year. Moore had 12 points and 6 assists in the first game. Senior guard Nick Russell (6'4" 210 lbs.) is averaging 8.4 PPG (14 for 43 from 3-point range), 3.5 RPG, 68 assists (42 turnovers) and has added 21 steals. He had 7 points in the first game.
Senior forward Shawn Williams (6'7" 230 lbs.) is averaging 4.8 PPG and 3 RPG. Williams had 16 points and 7 rebounds in a break out game in the first meeting of the two sides. Junior guard Ryan Manuel (6'4" 185 lbs.) is averaging 5.5 PPG, 2.6 RPG, and has 14 steals on the season (had 4 points in the first game). Sophomore forward Markus Kennedy (6'9" 245 lbs.) is averaging 11.8 PPG, 7 RPG, 28 blocks, and 27 steals on the season. He had 18 points and 10 rebounds in the first game and will be a huge issue again in the paint again in this game.
Freshman forward Ben Moore (6'8" 185 lbs.) is averaging 6.4 PPG and 3.6 RPG (will be an issue in the paint again for a struggling front line for the Bulls). Freshman guard Sterling Brown (6'6" 200 lbs.) is averaging 3.6 PPG, 3.6 RPG, and has 10 steals on the year (had 3 points and 4 rebounds in the first game) in the first game and rounds out a deep and talented SMU squad that dominated the Bulls in the first game.
This is a very important game, beyond just the 10-10 overall record. USF is playing awful right now, both on offense and defense. SMU, winners of 5 straight games is the team that is on the hot streak and has the advantage in this game. This game will be a battle for the Bulls and they need their key players to rise up and battle instead of just laying down and allowing SMU to own the Sun Dome. Victor Rudd who is just 10 points away from 1000 career points as a Bulls and others need to rise up and show up in this game. If the star players of the Bulls don't show up, this game will be over real, real fast.
