We continue with our countdown of the 25 all-time greatest USF football players - with number 2 - Matt Grothe

Grothe comes in at number two on my list, although you can argue for the number one spot.
Grothe played in 42 games, missing most of 2009 after he tore his ACL after 3 games.
He completed 717 passes out of 1148 attempts (62%) for 8669 yards including 52 touchdowns and 44 interceptions, he also rushed 545 times for 2206 yards and 23 touchdowns.
The list of accomplishments for Grothe are long and well known. From the career leader in yardage in Big East history, to the first bowl win in program history, Grothe elevated the program to new heights and gave fans a taste of what a major college football team could be.
Grothe was the quarterback while I went to school here at USF so his name is very familiar to me.
Grothe was able to take a program and carry it on his back, taking us to 2nd ranked in the country and all the upset wins in the process. He truly changed USF football into a program that no one wanted to face.
Grothe grew up in nearby Lakeland, and led the Lake Gibson Braves to two straight state title games - but unfortunately, faced Armwood both times and lost.
Grothe is a featued columnist for Runningthebulls.com.
