TAMPA -- Willie Taggart stood in front of the podium with a Cheshire cat grin.

"It's time to DO Something!" Taggart said, uttering his 'call sign'. "It's new years for us. For you guys, it's January 1st - for us it's August."

"Our guys reported today, all checked into their dorm room," Taggart continued. "It's time to Do something."

Taggart and his staff will begin their first official fall practice on Monday, August 5 at 8:30 AM. He's excited to get things underway.

"Don't ask me how last year went. I wasn't here last year. Getting better and being a winner is more of a fuel than last year," Taggart said. "This is our 2013 team and it's up to us to be the team we want to be."

"That's part of our tradition now. Everything we do from here, it's on us to be the team we want to be. To make others proud and be the team we intend to be in 2013," Taggart said. "Every day we have to get better."

The biggest question going into the 2013 season is - who is going to be the quarterback. With both Matt Floyd and Bobby Eveld taking most of the snaps during spring, the competition begins now.

"A guy that can lead this football team," Taggart said when asked what he's looking for in a starting quarterback. "A guy who will learn this offense, and separate himself from the others."

"Bobby (Eveld) and Matt (Floyd) came a long way with this offense during the spring," Taggart continued. "They did a good job in the spring and they both got better. They are going to have more practice time to learn this offense."

With both Steven Bench (transfer from Penn State) and Mike White - who signed in 2013 from Davie (Fla.) University School, will get their first chance with the first practice to get reps with the new offense.

"Ask me tomorrow and I may have a different answer," Taggart said. "We have to give these guys a chance to compete. We'll find ourselves a quarterback that can lead us to multiple victories. I think we'll find that guy by allowing these guys to compete."

Taggart, who signs all of his tweets with #DoSomething - got a big grin when asked about the meaning.

"DO Something," Taggart blurted out. "You have to do something in order to get anything in life. There's no more making excuses about the team we want to be. We've got to do something."

USF begins Spring practice August 5 on campus before heading to Vero Beach for 'camp' August 10-17.
