Here's five things to ponder
It's Wednesday and time to sit down and think about the past week. What we learned, what we see and what we can expect over the next seven days.
From the stellar visitation weekend with no less than five commitments to the Big East win by the Bulls over Georgetown. Nothing is off limits, so sit back - sip your latte and enjoy.
Coffee is for closers
Call Willie Taggart Mr. Coffee then. Taggart and staff, including Raymond Woodie, Ron Cooper and company - did a marvelous job closing the visiting recruits this past weekend. No less than five of the visiting seven that had not committed to USF have now pledged their services.
If at first you don't succeed - keep on chucking it.
If you were at the SunDome Saturday night, you might have thought the Bulls had become bricklayers. The bricks they were throwing up from beyond the arc were by far and away - not on target - in the first half.
USF shot a putrid 7 percent - yes, seven percent - from the three-point line and trailed Georgetown 31-23 at the half.
Then came the avalanche. The first three of the second half clanked the iron, but USF hit the next five in a row and finished the second half 7 of 13 and won 61-58.
SuperBull Sunday with Taggart in the middle
USF will still be represented in the 'big game' as Jim Harbaugh and company have former USF head coach Jim Leavitt on staff. Harbaugh also has a very close relationship with Taggart - having been his best man. Taggart also had a spot in Harbaugh's wedding. In fact, if it weren't for Jim Harbaugh's phone call to Willie Taggart - then a Manatee QB - in 1994, none of this is story material.
Harbaugh, at that time playing QB for the Bears, called a young Taggart and told him his dad, Jack Harbaugh, wanted him to come to Western Kentucky.
"Sure," thought the younger version of today's Bulls head coach. "I'm used to disappointment."
Of course, you know the story. Taggart went to WKU, played under Jack and became best friends with Jim.
And two Sundays from now - the Harbaughs will be at one another - as John's Baltimore Ravens take on Jim's 49'ers.
Pre-season No. 12 - Softball Bulls ready
A year after a College World Series appearance, the USF Women's softball team starts off the season at No. 12 according to USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 poll released Tuesday.
After a 50-14 record and CWS bid, coach Ken Eriksen's team is expected to make another run at the championship. The season starts Feb. 8 at home against Marshall. Read more from Gousfbulls.com
Women's basketball continues to roll
After losing to Villanova Saturday, Joe Fernandez' USF women's basketball team got right back off the mat and knocked down Big East opponent Seton Hall to improve to 13-5 overall and 2-3 in the Big East.
It was a huge win for the Bulls - as Fernandez' squad had lost three of its last four to begin Big East play. Andrea Smith had 21 points to lead the Bulls, while Alecia Jenkins had 15. USF takes on Marquette Saturday in the SunDome at 6 PM. Call 800-GoUSFBulls for tickets.
