Depth chart updated

After fall camp concluded with a scrimmage on Friday, coach Skip Holtz released a final depth chart in preparation for the opener against UT-Chattanooga on Saturday. There were several changes since the last update, and here's a position-by-position overview.

Quarterbacks: No real surprises here, as the battle for the backup quarterback position will carry over into game week, like Holtz said was a possibility prior to camp.

Running backs: Marcus Shaw makes another leap, as the junior speedster is now listed a co-first teamer with the reliable Demetris Murray. It will be interesting to see how many touches Shaw gets on Saturday.

Wide receiver: After appearing as a top backup in the last depth chart, promising freshman D'Vario Montgomery isn't listed, while senior Derrick Hopkins is somewhat a surprise as a first-teamer. Sophomore Ruben Gonzalez is also absent.

Tight end: No surprises here, as a pair of seniors hold the top spots. Freshman Sean Price and sophomore Mike McFarland, a transfer from Florida, are no slouches, though it's hard to imagine the coaching staff will use four tight ends this season.

Offensive line: In a slightly unexpected move, redshirt freshman Max Lang has impressed coaches enough to take over the top spot at right tackle Eatmon, leapfrogging Quinterrius Eatmon. Eatmon may have been dropped because he's been limited with a concussion, but is expected to play Saturday. The left side remains unchanged.

Defensive end: The top four remain the same, as Eric Lee looks to make an impact as a freshman.

Defensive tackle: Senior Cory Grissom is healthy again, and he retained his starting spot. Junior Luke Sager continues to be a pleasant surprise.

Linebacker: The Bulls look to have the same starters as last season, while sophomore Ruben Garcia, listed as Mike Lanaris' backup in the middle, is a new name on the radar. Freshman Tashon Whitehurst is no longer listed.

Cornerback: Senior George Baker will start opposite Kayvon Webster after battling several others in camp.

Safety: The position remains the same with Mark and JaQuez Jenkins starting. Jon Lejiste should see the field plenty, too.

Special teams: No big surprises. Lindsey Lamar will be the primary kick returner, while Terrence Mitchell will handle punts.
