Kentucky the favorite for 2013 star Walker

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Kentucky hasn't made him a scholarship offer yet, but the Wildcats lead for five-star 2013 power forward Chris Walker, he said on Friday at the NBPA Top 100 camp.

Walker, a 6-foot-9, 205-pound player for Holmes County High School in Bonifay, Fla., said that UK's John Calipari was one of many college coaches to call him since Wednesday, the first day they can contact 2013 prospects.

Walker listed UK, Tennessee, North Carolina State, Memphis, Florida, Florida State, Kansas, Syracuse, Iowa State and Baylor as schools he remembered having talking to.

"There were more than that," said Walker, who added that Baylor's Scott Drew called him at 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, the very first permissible time. "... Every 10 minutes it's ringing."

Walker, the nation's No. 3 player in 2013 and No. 2 power forward, said he feels "happy and blessed" to be receiving the abundance of recruiting interest, including from the Cats.

When asked what his interest level is in Kentucky, Walker said, "High. I like Kentucky a lot."

"I think Coach Cal is an honest man," Walker said. "He puts kids in the pros, of course. They have a great fan base."

Walker has previously mentioned on his Twitter page and in interviews that UK was his No. 1 school.

He reaffirmed that on Friday.

"Kentucky is my favorite still," said Walker, who mentioned that he doesn't have a UK offer currently. "... They are going to offer me soon."

Walker said Calipari "just touched base" in his phone call on Wednesday.

"He was telling me what he can do for me. He was just telling me everything about Kentucky."

Walker said Florida and Syracuse are next on his list after the Cats.

Walker said the best part of his game is "finishing in transition, rebounding and blocking shots."

When asked which college or NBA player he modeled his game after, Walker said with a smile, "Kevin Durant, but without the shooting."
