Simon sets his sights on a state title

Missouri commit Ian Simon wants to get a certain piece of jewelry before his high school playing days are over.

The Mansfield, Texas, safety made his decision on the Tigers in June but he has some business he wants to take care of in his last season at Legacy.

"I'd really love to get a state championship ring on my finger," Simon said.

Simon has spent his summer focusing on football by working out and setting his sights on two-a-days that begin on Aug. 9.

The 5-foot-11-inch, 180-pounder was in Columbia earlier this summer and came away impressed. His choice of the Tigers in June relieved some of the stress of the recruiting process.

"I've felt a lot less pressure not having to worry about where I'm going to go," Simon said.

He said he still receives letters from other schools but that is the extent of the recruitment.

Simon spoke with Missouri defensive coordinator Dave Steckel last week and said he didn't play very close attention to the conference realignment developments earlier this summer.

But before he joins the Tigers in a new-look Big 12, Simon wants to bring some bling to Columbia as a memento of his final high school season.
