Bucks in top 3 for five-star forward

With so few scholarships to give, recruiting has been a little slow of late for Thad Matta and the Ohio State Buckeyes basketball program. In the 2013 class, the Buckeyes already have a commitment from Toledo product Marc Loving and one player that Matta and company have at the top of their priority list is Bonifay (Fla.) Holmes County power forward Chris Walker. The 6-foot-9, 205-pound prospect has offers from many of the nation's top programs, including the Buckeyes.
"Ohio State, Florida, Florida State, Kansas, Memphis, UNLV, Syracuse, and Tennessee (have offered)," said Walker. "Kentucky is also recruiting me but they haven't offered yet."
While it's still very early in the process for the rising junior, three schools currently sit at the top for his services.
"The schools that are standing out to me so far are Ohio State, Kentucky, and Florida," he said. "Those are the three schools that are standing out."
Walker talked about what each school brings to the table.
On Ohio State - "I like the coaches and some of the players," he said. "I just met Jared Sullinger and he's a good guy. They are a school that puts people in the pros and they have a great fan base."
On Florida - "About the same thing as (Ohio State). They have a good program and I know coach Donovan really well."
On Kentucky - "They have a good fan base and I love how coach (John) Calipari puts people in the pros."
Walker has a lot of time left to think about his decision and at the moment, says he doesn't have any sort of timetable.
"Not really," said Walker, when asked if he had an idea of when he might make a decision. "I just want to get to know these schools really well. When I get really close to a school, I'll just commit to them."
On the court, Walker is coming off a strong spring and summer on the AAU circuit and broke down what his strengths are as a player.
"I think my strengths are running the floor, blocking shots, rebounding, and using my athletic ability to score," he said.
Walker is rated a five-star prospect by Rivals.com and the No. 3 overall player in the nation in the 2013 class.
