Clear lines up two official visits, talks favorites
Cameron Clear has maintained a fairly low profile in recent months, choosing instead to focus on his senior season.
However, the four-star offensive tackle/tight end from Memphis (Central), Tenn., has been checking out some of the schools that are hoping to land his signature in February.
Clear, a 6-foot-6, 265-pounder ranked by Rivals.com as the nation's No. 142 prospect, attended Ole Miss' win over Fresno State and Tennessee's home loss to Florida earlier this season.
"The (Ole Miss-Fresno State) game was interesting and it was exciting but not as much as it would have been with a bigger school (serving as the opponent)," Clear said, adding that the atmosphere in Knoxville for the Vols' clash with the Gators was "crazy. The tailgating, the whole town was crazy. I enjoyed it up there."
Still, Clear said no one should read anything into those comments. Clear has at least 12 scholarship offers and he's nowhere close to naming a favorite, much less making a decision.
"Everybody is the same," Clear said. "I probably won't start making any decisions until I start taking my official visits."
Speaking of his five allotted official visits, Clear said he plans to take trips to Tennessee and Florida in December. He said he plans to take his remaining official visits to Duke, Alabama and "probably" Miami in January.
Ole Miss will also be a factor, Clear said.
"Ole Miss is only about an hour from where I live and I can go there anytime," Clear said. "All the schools are great programs and winning programs," Clear said. "They all have great facilities and fit academic-wise. Basically, my decisions are going to be based on the relationships with the people around the school and the coaches recruiting me."
Clear said he's caught 19 passes so far this season. He has maintained his desire to start his career as a tight end before possibly moving inside to offensive tackle. Rivals.com ranks Clear as the nation's No. 18 offensive tackle prospect.
