Memphis standout deciding on college home, position released its newest rankings earlier this week, and on them, Memphis (Central), Tenn., standout Cameron Clear jumped to No. 2 in the state of Tennessee and to No. 142 nationally.

Clear, a 6-foot-6, 265-pounder, also jumped to No. 18 in the national positional rankings -- as an offensive tackle.

When Clear begins his senior season tonight against Wooddale, he'll play tight end. And that's the position he plans to play at the next level, at least until he proves to himself that his future is on the offensive line.

"Everybody's recruiting me as a tight end," Clear said. "I prefer to play tight end my first year. Wherever they decide to move me after that, that's fine with me."

Clear has had a great summer on the camp circuit, impressing at multiple stops and seeing both his ranking and his offer list soar. Clear's most recent offer came from Florida, a program Clear checked out last month.

"It's great right now," Clear said. "It was great (getting the offer from the Gators). I like the coaches, the way they coach, the style of offense. It was big."

Clear said Wednesday night he plans to take all five official visits this fall before making a decision. He said he definitely plans to take officials to Alabama, Tennessee, Florida and Duke. He's not sure which school will get his fifth and final official visit, though he said Miami is a strong candidate.

"It can change easily," Clear said.

Along those lines, Clear will be heading south to Ole Miss on Saturday for the Rebels' second scrimmage of fall camp. Ole Miss, despite not being named as a leading candidate for one of Clear's official visits, is very much in the mix for his signature.

"Ole Miss is pretty cool," Clear said. "I talk to (Ole Miss wide receivers) Coach (Ron) Dickerson two or three times a week. We kick it and talk about what's going on."

Clear said he's going to take a deliberate approach on the recruiting trail, listening to what people say and evaluating his options.

"I'm just calm and keeping a good attitude," Clear said. "I'm surprised but I'm not. I've worked real hard."
