Big plays from Miami early on put us behind and the rest was history. I talked all week about starting fast and putting Miami on their heels. Unfortunately for us, it was Miami who started fast, scoring on their first 3 possessions of the game.
The good thing about this game is that Miami will be our biggest challenge of the year. The bad thing is that it sure looked like it. Defensive play was sloppy all day long and way too many deep balls were completed.
This was the first game all year that you could tell we were getting manhandled on both sides of the ball, all game long. Miami looked bigger, faster and stronger and basically did whatever they pleased. I will say I was real impressed with how the 'Canes played and think they have a good chance of making it to a BCS game, if not a title shot.
Sophomore QB Steven Bench did a good job most of the day hanging onto the ball and I was pleased with a few sacks he took instead of trying to make a play. Unfortunately, our offense just isn't where it needs to be yet to be able to hang with teams that score a bunch of points, as Miami proved that Saturday.
It's back to the drawing board with an 0-4 record and the worst start in USF' short history. The guys just have to continue to grind it out from week to week, make improvements and the ice breaker of getting our first win in the Taggart regime will come.
Stay strong and stay behind the guys. Fans, being behind the players means more to the players than you will ever know. GOBULLS!
