Spring Practice Day 12 Report
Tampa-This is the last week of Spring Practice before the Spring Game this Saturday, and we start the practice report like we always do. Here is the warmup playlist from today's practice: "Creepin'" by Eric Church, "My Kinda Party" by Jason Aldean, "Lets Go" by Trick Daddy, and "Bring Em Out" by T.I..
Coach Taggart spoke to reporters before practice, and he said he was very impressed with how the scrimmage went this past Saturday.
"I thought it was a really good scrimmage," he said. "I thought on both sides of the ball we did some really good things. It was really impressive to see offensively, we were making plays consistently. We still have some things we have to correct, but we are getting better."
Coach Taggart also said that there were some individual players that impressed him and his staff.
"Michael Pierre did a lot of good things, Bobby Eveld threw the ball better than he did in the other scrimmage," Taggart said. "Mike McFarland made some big catches. Our entire defensive line played really well. Aaron Lynch can really play football. At the linebacker position, Reshard Cliett has really stood out. "
We were informed today that walk-on linebacker Ruben Garcia tore his ACL in last Saturday's scrimmage. Taggart said he will miss 6-8 months.
Deonte Welch was missing from the last scrimmage. He was attending a funeral and was back at practice today.
D'Vario Montgomery, Derrick Hopkins, Kenneth Durden, Johnny Sitton, and Andre Davis were working on punt returning today. Stu Holt also worked with the field goal unit on rushing and blocking on field goal attempts.
Raymond Woodie worked on coverage and drop backs with the linebackers.
Walt Wells is very vocal with the offensive line. Today, he along with Chris Chestnut worked with the line on recovering fumbles.
David Reaves and the receivers worked on quick cuts and short route running.
Eric Mathies worked with the defensive line on the swim move.
After the individual drills, the team went onto 7-on-7 drills. Bobby Eveld was the No. 1 quarterback, while Matt Floyd took snaps with the second team. The first unit on defense was Brandon Salinas, Josh Brown, Reshard Cliett, DeDe Lattimore, JaQuez Jenkins, and Mark Joyce. Former USF tight end Evan Landi was in attendance at practice today.
