Withnell playing the waiting game
Oregon State seems to have a knack for finding some of the best players in the state and turning them into players. Especially with players who seem to hover right under the radar. Names like Jordan Poyer, Jordan Bishop and Mike Remmers all come to mind as players who flew under the recruiting radar, but have stepped up on the field for the Beavers.
One local player, Salem (Ore.) South Salem tight end/linebacker Jake Withnell is one to keep an eye on if you follow Beaver recruiting. While he currently claims one offer from Portland State, both in-state PAC 10 programs are keeping close tabs on his performance on the field.
The 6-foot-5, 230 pound athlete has been receiving a great deal of attention as a tight end, but defense may be where he makes the greatest impact. While he plays linebacker for the Saxons, defensive end looks to be a natural fit for the still growing high school senior.
